Fpsdisplaysink text-overlay=false not working

Hi

I’m facing an issue with GStreamer 1.24.6 where a video won’t play using gst-launch. Here’s what’s happening:

When I try to play a video with a fpsdisplaysink text-overlay=false, I get an error and the video won’t play. However, if I remove text-overlay=false, the video plays fine.

I’ve encountered this issue on GStreamer versions 1.24.4, 1.24.6, and 1.24.8. This used to work perfectly on GStreamer versions 1.22.12 and 1.20.7, so I’m guessing something may have changed in the newer version I’m using now.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Any insights on what might have changed between versions or suggestions on how to troubleshoot it would be greatly appreciated!

Steps to reproduce the bug

Get the media files from https://docs1.toradex.com/114780-media-files-1.3.tar.xz
Unpack and copy /media-files/video folder to the home directory
Run the command above (it may need to change the file location)

I also tested the following pipeline in a GStreamer 1.24.8 environment in a Jetson Xavier AGX board:

and it ran without any issues.

Could you please generate the pipeline graph visualization?

Add the GST_DEBUG_DUMP_DOT_DIR=<path> to the pipeline. For example:

and then convert the PLAYING_PAUSE dot file to a PNG image as:

I’m not using the NXP BSP, and as far as I know, those elements are implemented in it.

I ran both pipelines you mentioned and they produced the same graphic output on 1.22.12 and 1.24.4.

On testvideo-gst-1.22.12 image, the last message of fpsdisplaysink rendered 286 frames while the other one only 142.
In my analysis the videoconverter is not doing any conversion, so, the bottleneck may be in another one. Do you see anything different?

Are you using a GStreamer environment for both versions or only for 1.24 version?

I’m not sure what you mean by “environment”.

I changed the Gstreamer OE recipe to 1.24 or 1.22 on my tests and ran the same pipeline.
