YouTube and VAAPI issues

Video playback on YouTube with VAAPI (Intel Iris) seems to have some issues. The video is sometimes not smooth and there are bugs in playback. I don’t know if the problem is already known, but I don’t think I’ve seen any reports on GitLab yet.
Can anyone tell me more?

Which browser is this about?

GNOME Web (aka Epiphany)

Would need logs, as explained on Multimedia - WebKit Documentation

And webkit://gpu output.

Also this venue might not be the right one. The VA decoders work quite well nowadays. We had bugs in WebKit related with VA and DMABufs, but they’ve been mostly fixed (in main, not sure all the commits were backported to 2.44…). So if you still experience issues with WebKit main, please file a bug on bugs.webkit.org

Does this mean that when upgrading to version 2.45 the issue might be solved?

yes, maybe give a try to GNOME Web Canary that runs on WebKitGTK builds from main.

Thank you for your support.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask you if there have also been any corrections on the use of the progress bar of video players; let me explain: when using video players on websites (not only on YouTube) it often happens that the playback bugs (“goes crazy”) when you try to click on the progress bar to bring the video to a time other than the one currently playing.

I’m not sure to understand what you mean. Please file a bug on bugs.webkit.org, share a screencast showcasing the issue and debug logs.

The first bug I reported to you has been fixed since version 2.44.3. For the second one, let’s keep updating on WebKit Bugzilla.
Thanks for the support
